Biodex Computerized Multi-Joint
Rehabilitation System.

-
Brantford Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine
Centre is equipped with a Biodex Computerized Multi-Joint Rehabilitation
System. The Biodex is a machine that has multiple uses in that it can be
used to perform five different types of exercises and can also be used for
isokinetic and/or isometric strength testing. As such, the Biodex system
allows us to offer highly specialized, effective and safe testing and
rehabilitation exercises for all of the major joints of the body.
-
For rehabilitation, the versatility of the
Biodex System allows us to prescribe a wide variety of exercise modes
including isokinetic, isometric, isotonic, eccentric and passive modes, to
enhance muscle strength and joint range of motion. These different modes
place differing demands on the muscles, allowing us to provide safe and
effective exercise for all levels of muscle function.
-
For muscular testing, the Biodex System can
be used to test the strength in any of the major muscles of the body
including: the ankle, knee, hip wrist, back / torso and shoulder. Such
testing allows the strength of the limbs on different sides of the body to
be compared to each other and also to compare the strength of reciprocal
muscle groups of the same limb to each other (such as quadriceps and
hamstrings in the thigh). Such muscle strength and imbalance tests are vital
for producing optimal performance and injury prevention in sports as well as
ensuring the patient is capable of completing functional and occupational
abilities.
